County Department of Recreation: Leo "Muscle" Sholes Memorial Park
In 2003 the Washington County Board of Supervisors entered into an agreement with the Washington County Park Authority to assume operational responsibilities for the Leo "Muscle" Sholes Memorial Park located along Stagecoach Road outside of the Town of Glade Spring. The County Department of Recreation oversees and manages the Park that features a public pool, softball and baseball fields, picnic shelters and open space amenities. The Park is named in honor of Leo "Muscle" Sholes, a Glade Spring native and noted Appalachian League baseball player of the 1950's.
Park Location:
The Park is located at 34202 Stagecoach Road, Glade Spring. From I-81, Exit 29 take State Route 91 north to Glove Drive. Take Glove Drive approximately 0.3 miles to Stagecoach Road. Turn left on Stagecoach Road approximately 0.7 miles to the Park entrance on the left. From Glade Spring, take State Route 91 south to Stagecoach Road. Take Stagecoach Road approximately 0.5 miles to the Park entrance on the right.
2007 Season and Hours of Park Operations:
Use of Park Softball Field, Baseball Field, Picnic Shelters and Open Space areas is beginning March 1 through October 31. The Public Pool shall open June 2 on weekends through June 8 and shall close the day after Labor Day. The Park is closed to the public from November 1 through February 28.
The Softball Field, Baseball Field, Picnic Shelters and Open Space areas of the Park are open for public use Monday – Saturday between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM and from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sundays. Picnic Shelters may be reserved for use between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM Monday – Saturday and 1:00 PM through 8:00 PM on Sunday. The hours of reserved use of the softball and baseball fields may be extended to 10:00 PM on approval of the County Department of Recreation. The Public Pool is open weather-permitting from 12:00 noon to 5:00 PM Tuesday - Saturday; 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Sundays. Nightime Private Pool Parties may be reserved on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays between 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Public Night Swimming is offered on Thursdays between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM.
2007 Park Fees:
Daily Public Pool Pass - $2.50 per person, regardless of age.
Public Pool Night Swim Pass - $1.00 per person, regardless of age.
Private Pool Party Rental - $50.00 reservation deposit required 1 week in advance of
reservation date. An additional $50.00 due and payable the day of reserved use.
Public Pool Storage Locker Rental (if provided) - $0.50 per day
Ball Field Rental - $50.00 per day for both Softball and Baseball Fields.
Picnic Shelter Rental - $25.00 per day
